Jason "Salesman" took a crunchy bite of the Big Apple recently, crashing at my bachelor pad and buying drinky poos for me in the process. During early morning crumpets and coffee, he wrote the following nugget, just prior to viewing the lovely French behind of Lady Liberty. We have the pictures to prove it!

Coffee.

You drink it. You love it.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been thinking about this dark, rich, delicious beverage; often while indulging in a cup. Coffee’s history is long and complex. Brewing methods vary and everyone has an opinion about this drink. Some abstain because of its affect, and others drink it for this sole purpose.

The beginning of coffee culture starts with a 9th century fable. The story goes that Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat herder noticed that his goats became more energetic after eating bright red berries of a certain bush. His flock was transformed into jumping goats. He was intrigued and chewed the berries himself. His exhilaration prompted him to bring the berries to an Islamic holy man in a nearby monastery. The holy man disapproved of their use and threw them into the fire, from which an enticing aroma billowed. The roasted beans were quickly raked from the embers, ground up, and dissolved in hot water, yielding the world's first cup of coffee.

Coffee has since become a beloved and important commodity. Thank you Kaldi, for first trying coffee. I think I’ll have another cup.
